Thelma Elaine Whiteside
Thelma Elaine Whiteside, 86, of West Chester, Pa., passed away Thursday at her home at Wellington Court at Hershey's Mill.
She was born in Butler, and was the daughter of the late Wilbert L. and Edwina Wagner Boyer.
She was united in marriage to J. Richard Whiteside on Oct. 19, 1946, in Butler. He preceded her in death in 1996.
In addition to raising their three children, Thelma was employed for many years at The Chester County Intermediate Unit in the Resource Film Library, faithfully serving the educational needs of the school children of Chester County.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, West Chester, for more than 45 years.
She developed a lifelong love of music, singing in many choirs from youth through adult, and she also had special talents in sewing and stitch work.
She had a great interest in cooking and prepared many special meals for family gatherings, as well as for outreach programs for the less fortunate.
Furniture refinishing was also of special interest to Thelma, and many of the pieces she refinished are family heirlooms today.
But it was her love of family and her faith that she cherished most and that carried her through the most difficult days of her illness. She had a fierce determination to be there for her family, through the good times and the most challenging. She will be remembered and carried in the hearts of all who knew her forever.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Karen McDonald and her husband, Ken, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; her sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Sandy, of Exton, Pa., and Kurt of Garner, N.C.; six grandchildren, Todd McDonald, Kristen Robinson, Nathan Whiteside, Erin Whiteside, Nicole Whiteside Gay, and Ashleigh Whiteside Lewis, and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Janet Sniezek of Zelienople, Larry Boyer and his wife, Marilyn, of Butler, and her late sister, Doris Yough.
Thelma enjoyed the past seven years living at Wellington, and the family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her time there.
