E. Jean Chambers, 90, of Zelienople, formerly of Beaver, passed away Saturday morning at Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople one day before her 91st birthday.
Born on March 23, 1923, in Ambridge, she was the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Sarah M. White Chambers.
She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Zelienople.
Jean was a graduate of Beaver High School in 1941 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education in 1945 from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio. She taught in the elementary schools of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Beaver. As a very devoted educator, she inspired a love of learning in her students.
She is survived by her nephew, David S. Douglass and his wife, Femme, of Pittsburgh, and by David's daughter, Elizabeth W. Douglass of East Stroudsburg.
Jean was preceded in death by her infant brother; her sister, Evelyn Douglass of McMurray, and her nephew, Richard L. Douglass of New York City.
Chambers - The friends of E. Jean Chambers, who passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, will be received for viewing at the Kinsey-Volz Funeral Home, 114 W. Spring St., Zelienople, from noon until the time of a brief service at 2 p.m. Saturday.
A celebration of life will follow from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Park Presbyterian Church in Zelienople. A luncheon will be provided. Private burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in East Liverpool, Ohio.
The family has suggested memorial donations be made to the Park Presbyterian Church, 115 E. Grandview St., Zelienople, PA 16063, or to The United Negro College Fund, Attn. Denise Scott, Direct Response Programs, 1805 7th St. NW Washington, D.C. 20001.
