James D. Miller, 79, of Cabot went to his home of eternal rest after several years of failing health, surrounded by his family at the Good Samaritan Hospice.
Born Dec. 9, 1934, in Allegheny Township, he was the son of the late James C. Miller and Mabel E. Benson Miller.
Jim was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Herman, the long-term Grand Commander of Alhambra, a third degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Bricklayers Union for 57 years.
One of Jim's first jobs was a laborer for a masonry crew on a school in Wesley, where he ran into members of his future wife's family. He worked his way up to a bricklayer, working all over the area. He operated a sawmill and made pallets while working at the Freeport Brick Yard. He started building houses with the help of his brother in the late 1960s, continuing to this day. He enjoyed his family, traveling, gambling and his work.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Schiebel Miller; his children, Debbie (Angelo "Butch") Marcucci of Butler, Doug (Cathy) Miller of Cabot and J. Kevin (Lynn) Miller of Cabot; his brother, Edward C. (Pat) Miller of South Carolina; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Calvin Miller; and one sister, Reatha Payne.
