JoAnn Ida Kanary, 79, of Slippery Rock passed away Sunday afternoon at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.

Born July 25, 1934, in Huntingdon County, JoAnn was the daughter of the late George W. Shook and Lilith (Newman) Shook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Kanary.
JoAnn was retired from the Office of Personnel Management where she worked as a file clerk, and she most recently worked at the Rite Aid in Slippery Rock.
JoAnn loved her dobermans and instilled her love of horses in her granddaughter.
JoAnn is survived by her four sons, Gene (Rusty) Kanary and his wife, Susan, of New Castle, Randy Kanary and his wife, Sarah, of Sarver, Thomas Kanary and his wife, Diane, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Scott Kanary of Sarver; her six grandchildren, and her four great-grandchildren.
Kanary - As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours for JoAnn Ida Kanary, who passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014.
