Joseph Bender, 80, of Lyndora passed away Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
Born on Jan. 1, 1934, in Argentine, Pa., he was a son of the late Louis Balzaratti and Mary Aland Bender.
He was a graduate of Butler High School. He was employed at Butler Armco for 41 years.
He was a member of Tri-County Country Music Association and Country Music and Dance Club of Butler. He was also a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church.
He enjoyed leather tooling, painting, playing bass guitar, rooting for the Pirates and Steelers and feeding wildlife animals.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores Koprivnikar Bender, who he married on May 10, 1969; his son, Richard (Robin) Bargo of Butler; his daughters, Shelly (Tom) Holley of Valencia, Marsha (Jim) Stohm of Strongsville, Ohio, Brenda (Mark) Kuntz of Chesapeake, Va., and Jodi (Steven) Shivak of Sewickley; his grandchildren, Roxanna DeLess, Heather and Aaron Groomes, Rikki Buccier, Roman Bargo, Ryan Bargo, Sophie Kuntz, Max Kuntz, Sarah Shivak and Alex Shivak; his great-grandchildren, Abigail Kamerer, Ethan and Ty DeLess, Bentley Mottern and Landon Hartman; his brother, Louis A. Bender Sr. and his companion, Doris Smith; his sister, Elizabeth Wiegand; and his dog, "Toby."
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his two sisters, Vernona Balzaratti and Nell Dugan.
Bender - The friends and family of Joseph Bender, who passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
A blessing service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. George Palick officiating. Interment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001, or to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
