James "Jim" W. Joyce, 87, of Valencia, formerly of the Garfield neighborhood in Pittsburgh, passed away Wednesday.
Born on July 20, 1927, he was the loving son of William and Nora Long Joyce; beloved husband of 63 years of Mary K. O'Donnell Joyce; dear father of James P. (Wyline) Joyce and the Rev. Michael J. Joyce, OFM Cap.; proud grandfather of Sherrianne (Jay) Haulbold and Colleen (Jerry) Moore, and great-grandfather of Crystle and Caitlin Lavine, Erin Haulbold, William, Patrick and Michael Moore.
Jim was preceded in death by his three brothers, Michael, John and William Joyce.
James proudly served in the Navy during World War II.
Jim later became a police officer for many years with the Pittsburgh Police. He was a 50-year member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Fort Pitt 1.
Jim enjoyed fishing down in Florida, vacationing to Stone Harbor, N.J., and spending time with his family.
Joyce- The family of James "Jim" W. Joyce, who passed away Wednesday. Aug. 27, 2014, will welcome friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at theSchellhaas Funeral Home, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, where a vigil service will be at 8 p.m. Friday.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Holy Sepulcher Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler, where Jim's son, the Rev. Michael J. Joyce, OFM Cap, will officiate. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Holy Sepulcher School and the Faith Formation Department, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler, PA 16002.
