Richard Howard McCrea
Richard Howard McCrea, 80, of East Brady passed away Sunday night in ACMH Hospital, Kittanning.
Born in Sugarcreek Township, Chicora, in Armstrong County, June 14, 1932, he was the son of the late William J. and Lydia M. Pettigrew McCrea.
He worked at Pullman Standard in Butler until the plant closed and then worked for Rexhyde in East Brady, where he worked until the onset of his ill health. He also was an oil producer in the Chicora area.
Howard proudly and honorably served our country in the U.S. Army from Jan. 20, 1953, to Dec. 21, 1954, during the Korean War, achieving the rank of private first class serving with the military police.
He attended St. Paul's Community Church, Chicora. He was a member of the Chicora VFW Post 7876 and the American Legion Post 325 of Cowansville.
He enjoyed traveling, camping, farming and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and played with a dance band.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet McElroy McCrea, who he married May 20, 1957; daughters, Susan McCrea of Butler and Ann and Dean Johns of Parker; sons, Richard E. McCrea of East Brady and William and Trina McCrea of Chicora; grandchildren, Heath McCrea, Cristin McCrea, Laura McCrea, Hilary McCrea, Tiffany Johns, Nicolle Johns, Brianna Johns, Kaylin Johns and Lindsay Johns; great-granddaughter, Addisyn Johns; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Libecco and Rebecca Lehner; a brother, George McCrea; and a brother-in-law, Robert McElroy.
MCCREA - There will be no visitation for Richard Howard McCrea, who passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Saint Paul's Community Church, 2167 State Route 268, Chicora, with the Rev. Randall Forester, pastor, officiating.
Full military honors will be conducted by the Chicora VFW, the Chicora American Legion, the Bradys Bend American Legion and the 99th Readiness Command of Pittsburgh.
Cremation services were entrusted to the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Paul's Community Church, 2167 State Route 268, Chicora, PA 16025.
