Thomas Michael "Mike" Riley Sr., 72, of Green Street, Chicora, passed away Friday morning at the Chicora Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born in Butler on July 21, 1940. He was the son of John and Marie Waltman Riley.
He was a 1958 graduate of Chicora High School. He had been employed for more than 30 years at Braun's Baking Co. and later worked for five years at the Chicora Medical Center.
He was a member of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, the Karns City Quarterback and Roundball Clubs and served on the Karns City School Board for four years. Mike enjoyed bowling, fishing, working in his yard, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Hetrick Riley, who he married at the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora on July 3, 1961.
Also surviving are four children, Tracy Rankin and her husband, Gary, of Karns City, Stephanie Markle and her husband, Brian, of Karns City, Michael Riley Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Chicora and Terri McElroy and her husband, David, of Karns City; and nine grandchildren, Jason Rankin and his wife, Sarah, Kylee Rankin and her fiance, Justin Smith, Brianna, Aaron and Sydnee Markle, Michael and Nolan Riley, and Ian and Ethan McElroy.
Mike was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild in August.
Additionally, two brothers survive, John Riley and his wife, Patricia, and Bernard Riley and his wife, Diane, all of Butler; three sisters, Pat Riley, Marge Schneider and her husband, Bill, and Mary Kay Summerville and her husband, David, all of Chicora; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Waltman, two nieces and two nephews.
RILEY - Friends of Thomas Michael "Mike" Riley Sr., who died Friday, March 15, 2013, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from noon to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Joseph Pudichery, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
A parish prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
