George E. Nodge III, 84, of Butler passed away early Wednesday morning at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born and raised in Butler on Nov. 24, 1929, he was the son of the late George Jr. and Rose (Vargo) Nodge.
He was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
He was a 1948 graduate of Butler High School.
A veteran of the U.S Army, he served during the Korean War.
He retired after more than 40 years of service at Armco.
George was a hunter and avid sports fan, especially baseball and football. He played baseball and bowled for many years in various leagues in Butler. He also enjoyed his pet dogs over the years.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Maryann (Gombos) Nodge, who he married on Aug. 29, 1953; his two brothers, Ronald (Carol) Nodge of Greensburg, Pa., and Richard (Carol) Nodge of Butler; his sister, Rosemarie (Homer) Smith of Butler; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
NODGE - The friends of George E. Nodge III, who passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
St. Paul's Catholic Women will meet at 9:40 a.m. Saturday at the church, to recite the rosary.
Memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
