NEIL LONGSON
Greetings:
I am sending this background as some of you may not know of Walter and his family's connection to the Longsons at Kathyrn.
The Anderson's were progressive farmers that farmed across the road from our family farm at Kathyrn.
Walter's father, Oscar was very helpful to our family as we moved onto that farm in 1937/38. They assisted with lending machinery and brought his threshing machine and crew to help with the harvest. Walter and his older brother, Cecil (still living on their farmsite) were contemporaries of my older brothers, Wilf and John. They had a lot of escapades together. They maintained close ties with each other over the years. All four followed their fathers' footsteps and joined the Masonic Lodge in Irricana. Both Cecil and Walter got their degrees in Agriculture at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
My personal association started with their two sisters: The eldest in the family, Olga taught me in grade I and her sister, Esther taught me in grades II and IV at Hawthorne School that was situated on land donated by Oscar in the early '20's.
Our large family was often invited to the Anderson's home at Christmas which was a very special event for we younger kids.
Walter and his wife, Edith were tireless community workers and contributed greatly to the community. Walter will be greatly missed!
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Edith and their families.
