Elizabeth "Betty" Kathleen Swanson (nee Devoy) passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the age of 86 years at the Foothills Country Hospice. Betty was born at Cumberland, BC and moved to Alberta in 1950. She moved to the Calgary area in 1954. Betty was very proud to be a bookkeeper, and after retirement, she continued to do books for many organizations. Mom was a passionate volunteer and always gave to charitable organizations. She travelled far and wide and often she did it on her own. Betty is survived by her daughter and son, Judy and Rod Christensen and Rick and Linda Swanson; four grandsons, Greg, Darcy (Carey), Mike and Ray; as well as her two great-grandchildren Chloe and Tate. She was predeceased by her husband El Swanson (1980); her sisters, Rita, Agnes and Sharon; and her brothers Gordon and Bill. Funeral Services will be held at Bonavista Evangelical Missionary Church (1509 Lake Ontario Drive S.E.) on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, P.O. Box 274, Okotoks, AB (Phone 403-995-4673, Mom had spent five weeks in the Rockyview Hospital before being transferred to the Foothills Country Hospice. The family would like to thank Dr. Palancia, and nurses, Delia, Jessica and Hillary on Unit 74 for all their help, support and guidance through this difficult time. In living memory of Betty Swanson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
