Des, beloved husband of Eleanor Maria Shaw, (nee Stead) of Airdrie, AB, passed away on June 24, 2013 at the age of 67 years. Des was born in Ballyrock, Northern Ireland on November 6, 1945 to Jim and Esther Shaw. He grew up in Northern Ireland until the age of 21 when he immigrated to Calgary, AB. After meeting Eleanor and marrying on February 27, 1971, they lived in North Vancouver, BC. Together Des and Eleanor raised their two sons, Desmond and Kevin, in North Delta, BC. Des worked as a Photogrammetrist and surveyor. He co-owned and operated Aero Geometrics Ltd., until his retirement. Eleanor and Des moved back to Calgary, AB in 2004, but settled into life in Airdrie, AB in 2009. Des was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and son. He enjoyed coaching his boys in soccer and being the pit boss for competitive go-kart racing. He was passionate about salmon fishing with his family, as well as working on home construction and automotive projects. He also loved to spend time in Northern Ireland, Campbell River, BC and Newfoundland. He lived every day to the fullest and will be missed and remembered by all who knew him. Des is survived by his loving wife Eleanor, his sons Kevin (Tiffany Rice) and Desmond (Tara Watson Shaw), his three granddaughters Aislyn, Brynn and Carys, and one brother Trevor Shaw. Des was predeceased by his parents Jim and Esther Shaw and his older brother James Shaw. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
