WRAY, Dorothy May (nee Buyers)
February 12, 1919 - December 16, 2012
Dorothy May Wray (nee Buyers) of Airdrie, AB, formerly of Irricana, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the age of 93 years. Dorothy was born in 1919 in Youngstown to May and James Buyers. They resided 27 1/2 miles away in Bigstone. In 1925, they moved to Onoway where Mom worked in a grocery store. In 1941, she worked at Kresgies and Safeway in Edmonton. She met Jan Wray in 1939 and they were married in 1942. They moved to Barry, Ontario where Jan was stationed in the army. Mom moved back to Edmonton when Jan was sent overseas during the war. Their son Gord was born in Edmonton in 1945. Dorothy, Jan and Gord moved to the Houston-Wray farm in Irricana in 1946. Wendy was born in 1948 and lived at the farm until Jan died on October 30, 1965. Dorothy moved to Calgary in 1967 and worked with Calgary Co-op for over fifteen years. She retired in 1983. Dorothy is survived by her children, Gordon Wray of Brownvale, AB and Wendy Geier (Bryon Geier) of Keoma, AB; grandchildren, Phillup Wray, Lynnette Wray-Robertson (Ross), Deanna Bell (Trevor), and Carrie Lucas (Curtis); and great-grandchildren, Courtney, Ryan and Nolan Bell, Reegan, Brennan and Caeden Lucas, and Skye and Kirk Robertson. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Jan Wray; parents James and May Buyers; sister Edna Jolly; and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) today, December 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Many thanks to all the staff of the Bethany Airdrie Supportive Living for all the care and compassion given to Dorothy over the past three years! Also to the staff of Huntington Hills Statesman Life Center for the companionship and support for her life there for ten years.
