Gary Hagen

Gary Hagen February 24, 1938 - February 27, 2014

Gary Hagen of Calgary passed peacefully in his sleep at his home on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the age of 76 years from complications of living with diabetes all his life.

Gary was born on February 24, 1938 in Biggar, Saskatchewan and spent his

childhood on the family farm. He loved animals, especially his horse and dog. Living on the farm inspired his love of gardening that became his life-long hobby and he developed a green thumb.

He met his future wife, Marilyn, at a school dance and they were married on the first day of summer, on June 21, 1958. They settled in Saskatoon and raised three children, Linda, Kevin and Brent. Gary worked his way up the sales ladder at the Federated Co-op until 1974 when the family spent two years living in Tsawwassen, British Columbia. The couple missed the prairies so they moved in 1976 and Gary remained a proud Calgarian until his passing. His working years in Calgary were spent selling life insurance, real estate and mortgages. Gary's natural ease with people resulted in his earning the title of top salesmen and he was rewarded with

yearly trips to locations that included Hawaii, Los Vegas, Florida, Spain,

Jamaica and the Caribbean.

Gary Hagen was predeceased by his brother, Lionel, his father, Harold and his mother, Pearl.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn and his children Linda (Bill), Kevin (Lorraine), Brent and his sister Shirley Angus. His grandchildren Andre, Christine (Jim), Spencer (Michelle) and Jenna will dearly miss him. He especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren Annika and Carli Stenberg. The family is very grateful for the memory of his last birthday celebration on February 23, 2014. Even though he was in constant pain, he never complained. Grandpa loved his family and they loved him.

Gary's family gathered on March 2, 2014 to celebrate his life and his stories in an intimate dinner, as he requested. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Gary Hagen, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Crowfoot Chapel.
