It is with profound sadness and great loss that we announce the passing of George Todorovic on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Calgary, AB at the age of 80 years. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. George was born in Trsic, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Yugoslavia, the third brother in a family of six children. He completed his technical training for bricklaying and then served in the army for three years as a President's guard. After his service in the army, George moved to Belgrade to complete his studies in Civil Engineering. In 1959, George met the love of his life Ruza and they were married in 1960. In 1963 they moved to Germany before settling in Calgary, AB in 1967 to begin their new life. In 1970, George and Ruza were blessed with the birth of their son Jovan and in 1973 their daughter Mara was born. George believed in hard work and perseverance. He was a master of his craft and enjoyed building homes from the ground up, often doing most of the work himself. He has left numerous legacies and participated in the building of many landmarks around Calgary for his family to enjoy. George is survived by his loving wife, Ruza; his son, Jovan (Kari Woodman); his daughter, Mara (Dale Shwed) and his three beautiful granddaughters Zara, Illianna, and Alexandra; Eric and Preston; his sister, Stojanka (Marjan Amiovic); brother, Milan; and his sister-in-law, Milica as well as numerous nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at both the Foothills and Peter Lougheed Hospitals and for the wonderful care George received in the last few days. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayer Services held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8.
