MOFFATT, Gerald Harvey (Gerry)
December 24, 1953 - December 19, 2012
It is with deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Gerry on December 19, 2012. Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Gloria; son Gregory (Julie) of Stouffville, ON and son Garrett of Calgary. He is also survived by his parents Eileen and Cecil Moffatt of Regina, Sask. and his sister Judy Stephenson (Denis) of Atlanta, Georgia. Gerry studied Chemical Engineering at the U of S in Saskatoon. In 1976, he moved to Calgary and started his career in the oil and gas industry at Dome Petroleum holding several positions including a stint in Edmonton as a plant engineer. He then worked in various positions at Canadian Occidental Petroleum, after which he was offered the opportunity through QatarGas to live and work in Doha, Qatar along with his family. After three adventurous years in the Middle East, Gerry and the family returned to Calgary where he worked for Nexen as a project consultant traveling regularly to Perth, Australia. Gerry then transitioned into Nexen permanently and one of his most exciting achievements was completing an offshore drilling project off the coast of Nigeria in West Africa. Throughout his career, Gerry travelled extensively internationally, touching every continent throughout the world; a piece of each destination placed a memorable experience in his heart. He enjoyed many great years working in the
oil patch, acquiring friends and building countless relationships. Everyone knew they could always count on Gerry. He had a big heart and was willing to step up to the plate whenever help was needed. Gerry was passionate about music, both listening and playing. He also enjoyed spending his free time boating or playing golf out at his family cottage in Invermere, B.C. A Celebration of Gerry's life will be held at St. Thomas United Church (100 Hawkwood Boulevard N.W.) on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2:00 P.M.
