Girvin Kirk

Girvin Kirk 1934 - 2013 Dr. GIrvin Eaton Kirk, known to his friends as Mike Jaquith, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2013 at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, after a short battle with leukemia. Mike is well remembered and deeply missed for his intelligence, warmth, large personality, sensitivity, deep and "Celtic" insight into people, commanding social presence, engaging conversation, endless intellectual curiosity on any topic, fascination with genealogy and family history, love of music, the arts and travel, irritating quirky habits and unique ability to connect with people of many ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Mike taught developmental psychology at University of Illinois where he completed his doctorate, worked for Sesame Street on learning programs, and helped develop programs for mentally retarded adults at Lifespire. He is survived by his close friend and partner of 22 years, David, daughter Stuart, son James, five grandsons and many close and special friends. Per Mike's wishes his ashes will be entombed in the mausoleum of the Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
