John DRIFTMIER

DRIFTMIER, John Frederick
November 24, 1982 - February 24, 2013
It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our eldest son and brother John Frederick Driftmier. At the age of thirty, John tragically died in an airplane crash February 24 in Kenya where he was directing a TV show. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Allen (of Ottawa), mother Sophia Lang and father David Driftmier and stepmother Barbara Driftmier (of Calgary), his brother Peter Driftmier (of Vancouver), stepsiblings Jen Mass, Jill Perry and David Perry (of Calgary), Carolyn's mother and father, Cathy and Les Allen and sister Jessica Allen and her husband Steve Konkle (of Ottawa) and extended family in Canada and the USA. John loved life and everyone who knew John loved him. A gifted director, his work always celebrated the humanity of every person on screen. Filming in over sixty countries, he was a great ambassador of Canada and friends he made all over the globe mourn him. All are invited to honour John's life this afternoon, March 2, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Anglican Church (1121 - 14 Avenue S.W., Calgary). Another service will be held in Ottawa, John and Carolyn's home, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be directed to an orphanage in Chandigarh, India in care of the Himalaya Foundation of Canada (himalayafoundation.org).
