John SOLKSHINITZ

SOLKSHINITZ, John
January 19, 1925 - December 9, 2012
John passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the age of 87 years. John was born January 19, 1925 in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the US Armed Forces as a US Army Airplane and Engine Mechanic. He served his country during World War II from 1943 to 1946 and was awarded various medals. John married Margaret on January 22, 1955 and they resided in Bermuda. He flew as a Flight Engineer for the US National Weather Service before starting with Colonial Airlines, who was later acquired by Eastern Airlines. He then moved his family to Florida and, later, on to Oakville, Ontario. After thirty-six years of service to Eastern Airlines as a Maintenance Manager, John retired with Margaret to Sacramento, California. They then finally settled in Calgary, Alberta in 1992, where they enjoyed the closeness of all their children and grandchildren. John found great comfort with his dogs, Lady, Quaker, Max and Hank, over the years. John is survived by his wife Margaret, who was the love of his life for fifty- seven years. He will be deeply missed by Margaret; his children, Steve (Cathy), Pat, Sue, Joan (Marc), Mike, Carol; and seven grandchildren Josh, Alex, Chris, Andrew, Kevin, Darren and Brad. John is now at peace in heaven with his eldest child Cathy (survived by her husband Geoff).
