HIGGINS, Julia Barbara
1922 - 2014
With sad hearts we say a loving goodbye to our family matriarch, Julia Higgins (Bahan). Julia passed away with family by her side on February 27, at the age of 91 under the watchful and compassionate care of the staff at the McKenzie Continuing Care Centre. She will be greatly missed by her children: Don (Joy), Valerie and Patricia (Sandy), and her brother William (Bill) (Mae) Bahan and her grandchildren. Julia was predeceased by her husband Victor and son Tony. Home and family were everything to Julia and over the years she generously opened her home to many family and friends. It was not uncommon to find several generations living under the same roof with Julia at any one time. Julia was a fiercely proud lifelong resident of Albert Park, living 89 of her 91 years on the same block. She was involved in the writing of two books on the area and helped organize the 100 year anniversary reunion of the Albert Park School. Julia was asked to cut the Albert Park/Forest Lawn 100 year anniversary cake. Her family ties to Albert Park and to Chestermere are evident in the local land marks. A pool is named in honour of her brother Bob Bahan, a mural highlighting her mother and brother can be found on International Avenue, a park bench in her parent's names over looks the irrigation canal and City and a cairn in Chestermere honours her husband Victor as one of Chestermere's founders. We will all miss her beautiful beaming smile which would always light up a room. An Afternoon of Rememberance will be held on Sunday, March 9, 3:00 p.m. at the Mountain View Funeral Home.
