Lorne JONAT

JONAT, Dr. Lorne Vernon
October 4, 1925 - January 20, 2013
It is with heavy and sad hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Lorne Jonat, at the Foothills Hospital. He lived a long and fulfilling life, providing loving care to his patients, the community and his family. He was a mentor, a great fisherman and an avid gardener. He truly had a heart of gold and a gentle spirit. His family was with him until the end and his legacy will live in their hearts forever. Lorne graduated in 1948 from the University of Saskatchewan with a BA. and received his M.D. from the University of Manitoba in 1951. He established a medical practice in Swan River, Manitoba until 1964. Lorne graduated with a Masters of Public Health from the University of Minnesota in 1966 and became the Medical Officer of Health in Manitoba from 1964 to 1973. Lorne resumed medical practice in Elk Point, Alberta 1973 to 1978 and from 1978 to 1987 he was the Deputy Medical Officer of Health for the City of Edmonton and then retired to Redwood Meadows. Lorne is survived by his wife, Jean of 63 years; daughter, Jan (Richard) Michaels; granddaughters, Carla Michaleski and Jennifer Michaleski (Christopher Chornohos); as well as his brother Glen (Maidred) and sister-in-law Janet. He was predeceased by his brother Percy. A Celebration of Lorne's Life will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of EDEN BROOK FUNERAL HOME (corner of Lower Springbank Road and 17 Avenue S.W.). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Calgary Health Trust - Grief Support Program, No. 800 11012 Macleod Trail S.E., Calgary, AB, T2J 6A5.
