Maria Lah passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2013 at the age of 79. She will be dearly missed by her husband Danilo Lah of Airdrie; three children Dan Lah (Christine Wan) of Calgary, Ruben Lah (Birgit) of South Jordan, UT and Silvana Phillips (Colin) of Airdrie; five grandchildren Quinton, Nathan and Jordan Lee, all of Calgary, and Roman and Danielle Lah, both of S. Jordan, UT; a great-granddaughter Christina Lah; four siblings Elisabeth, Barbara, Franz and Anna; and a large extended family. Maria was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Richard Lee; two grandchildren Vincent and Riana Phillips; two sisters Katarina and Helena; and a brother Jacob. Maria was born and raised in Croatia and ventured to Canada on her own at the age of 19. Not long after her arrival in Ontario, she met Danilo, but they did not marry until moving west to Calgary. After several years in Calgary, the family moved to Chestermere followed by Bowden and then retired to Airdrie in 2003. Maria was a remarkable homemaker, enjoying baking bread and specialty pastries. She loved creating crafts and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a skilled seamstress specializing in dress making. Maria had infinite patience, resilience, strength, hope and optimism that demonstrated her unfailing faith. She has a soft heart for others which created many bonds of love. A Funeral Service will be held in Maria's honour at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Reunion Chapel, 900 Reunion Gateway N.W., Airdrie on Monday, January 7 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Airdrie Cemetery.
