Mildred Allen

ALLEN _ Mildred Mae July 20, 1920 - April 7, 2006 Mildred (Millie) Allen (nee Murphy) passed away peacefully Friday, April 7, 2006 at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta, leaving remaining family members and friends in shock and grief. Millie was the daughter of the late Mildred (Sanford) and Aubrey Murphy of Avondale, Hants Co., Nova Scotia born in 1920, the oldest girl of a family of eleven children. In 1941 Millie married Frank Allen who in 1944 became victim of World War II in Italy. In 1945 Millie's mother passed away and Millie returned home to care for her younger siblings. Millie became quite interested in the farm and played a leading role in its operation. In 1957 Millie left the farm and moved to Calgary where she lived and worked since. Wherever she was Millie was viewed by family and all who new her as a stalwart in the family. Millie was like a mother to her younger siblings; the glue that held the family together; the light that guided everyone home. Millie is survived by sisters, Helen Mosher of Windsor, Nova Scotia, Louise Starratt of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; brothers, Walter and Harley Murphy of Calgary; several nieces, nephews and friends. Millie was predeceased by her husband Frank; sister Annie; brothers, John, Winfred, Earl, Maurice and Gerald. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Millie's memory. Following Cremation, Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 17 Avenue and Garden Road S.E, Calgary, AB. Burial to take place at a later date.
