Peggy CARELS

CARELS, Margaret "Peggy"
(nee Wiseman Gullacher)
September 15, 1927 - December 31, 2012
On the morning of December 31, 2012, our loving Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma, Margaret Carels, passed away peacefully at 85 years of age. "Peggy" was born Margaret Alice Wiseman on September 15, 1927 in London, England, to parents Archie and Florence Wiseman. She attended Oldfield Park School in Bath, England, before coming to Canada on the Duchess of Bedford as a war bride. She married Arne Gullacher in 1946, and together they had two daughters: Valerie (Black) and Gloria (Gullacher). After Arne's death, Peggy married Hans Carels in 1966, and they had two sons: David and Peter Carels. Hans predeceased Peggy in 1991. Throughout her life, Peggy had a variety of careers: from an Old Dutch potato chip lab technician, to a receptionist at Edmonton's grand Hotel MacDonald. But no matter what she did, Peggy always had a special fondness for dogs. She and Hans (along with their children) bred, raised and showed championship German Shepherd Dogs for many years, providing the City of Calgary Police Dog section with some of its earliest service animals. Peggy's greatest joy, however, was her family. Peggy is survived by: her sisters, Edie Haynes and Trixie Whitting (both still living in England); her two daughters, Valerie (Doug) and Gloria; her two sons, Peter and David (Cynthia); her grandchildren, Tanya (David), Craig (Jennifer), Taralea, Ty (Kelsey), Corey, Aidan, Lauren, Livia and James; and her great- grandchildren, Lyse, Daniel, Hailey, Kaitlyn, and Lucas. The whole family would like to thank the staff of Millrise Place and the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary for their care and compassion for our dear Peggy, who will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered. As per Peggy's wishes, the family will celebrate her life together on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, after the weather warms and our fog has lifted. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
