Robert Lloyd Stendal May 19, 1926 - July 6, 2013 Bob passed away peacefully on July 6, 2013 at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice. In addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Valerie; he leaves his three sons Bradford (Yvonne), Ward (Lynn), Myles (Connie); four grandchildren Kellen, Clare, Leah & Devin; brother Bill (Inez) and nephews Brian, Scott and Todd; aunt Gloria; brother-in-law Don (Bunny) McKnight; sister-in-law Shelagh (Don) Preston; sister-in-law Marge McKnight; niece Naida (Ken) Faircloth; and 29 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Martha and father Lloyd.
Born and raised in Virden, Manitoba, Bob was valedictorian of his high school graduating class. He joined the army
in 1944 and after the war attended United College in Winnipeg. In 1956 he became a Landman for TransCanada PipeLines. His career took him across Canada, purchasing land from Montreal west to the Alberta border. As a result, he and Val lived in Montreal, Toronto, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg and Regina before settling in Calgary in 1969.
Bob enjoyed a second career as well, having worked 25 years as a realtor in Calgary.
A dog lover, handyman and natural storyteller, Bob liked nothing more than spending time with his family, keeping up with current affairs and following his favourite sports of tennis, golf and curling.
The family would especially like to thank the palliative care team of Sue, Helen and Cara, whose support, kindness, laughter and commitment to Bob over the past four years was deeply appreciated; the staff of the Carewest Sarcee Hospice, who were a comfort to Bob these past two months; and kindred spirit Linda, fellow tennis devotee and dining partner.
At Bob's request, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations can be made to the Carewest Sarcee Hospice, 3504 Sarcee Road SW, Calgary AB T3E 4T4.
