Ronald YOUNG

YOUNG, Ronald Gordon
April 15, 1926 - December 5, 2012
Ronald Gordon Young, beloved husband of Adeline of Calgary, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the age of 86 years. Ron was born in Edmonton, the only child of Sidney and Gladys Young, but lived most of his life in Calgary. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. After the war and his discharge from the Navy, Ron married Adeline Bolland in 1951. Ron spent most of his working life in the oil patch working in different capacities until 1974, when he and Billy Aitken formed Sunburst Perforating Services, a successful venture that was sold in 1996. Addie and Ron loved to see new places and their travels took them all over North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. They also enjoyed several cruises, but the Disney cruise with the grandkids was a favorite for everyone and will remain a special memory. An avid golfer and member of Camelback Golf and Country Club in Scottsdale, AZ, Ron enjoyed many years at his winter home playing golf and having a drink at the nineteenth hole with his fellow snowbirds. Ron was a great friend and it was important to him to keep in touch with them through regular (and sometimes long!) lunches – nobody enjoyed a good steak sandwich and a scotch more than he did! Besides his loving wife of sixty years Addie, Ron is survived by son Reece; daughter Jill (Lowell); and grandchildren Krista and James. They along with several loving nieces, nephews and a host of friends will dearly miss his sense of humor and relaxed approach to life. He was predeceased by his son Ronald (Buzz) Gordon Young in 1978. A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held at Earl Grey Golf Club (6540 - 20 Street S.W.) on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to a charity of the donor's choice. The family thanks the staff at the Southwood Hospice for their compassionate care in the last weeks of Ron's life. In living memory of Ronald Young, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
