It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth McLean announce her passing in Calgary on November 10, 2012 from the debilitating consequences of Alzheimer's Disease. She leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her memory, her four children: Grant (Tena) of Mountain View, AB; Donna (Randy) Remington of Calgary, AB; Brad of Okotoks, AB and Marcia (David) Buchholz of Calgary, AB; seven grandchildren: Andrea, Leah, Ryan, and Alanna Remington; Hayley and Jordan Buchholz; Tyler McLean; and two great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Jean Fallis of Wood Bay and Pilot Mound, Manitoba as well as her sisters, Mabel Butterworth, Alice Fallis and Gladys (Jean) Brooks. Ruth was born on the family farm at Wood Bay, Manitoba in 1924. She grew up on the farm in a Christian and musical family and received her education in Wood Bay and Pilot Mound. Ruth highly valued education and attended the Manitoba Normal School. After graduation she taught school in Sperling and Neepawa. At various times she lived in Pipestone, Virden, and Glenboro before settling in Winnipeg where she remained for 48 years. In 2002 she relocated to Calgary to be closer to her family. Ruth taught mathematics at the junior high school level in St. Boniface School Division for many years. In the 1960's she began an evening program of university studies. Through hard work and dedication she graduated with a degree in education in 1975. Ruth was an active member of Club 66 and served as President of the organization for many years. She was an avid curler and participated in the St. Boniface School Division teachers' curling league. However, her true love was the game of Bridge. She spent many enjoyable afternoons and evenings playing bridge with her friends prior to and during her retirement. Ruth will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Her strength, steadfastness and loving nature will continue to inspire us. She was a good and simple woman who loved life in many ways. Friends may call and meet with family in the York Room located on the Mezzanine Floor of the Fairmont Winnipeg, 2 Lombard Place (Telephone 204-957-1350) on Friday, November 16 from 3:00 p.m to 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in Pilot Mound, Manitoba on Saturday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pilot Mound United Church. Interment will take place in the Pilot Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any charitable organization. The family would like to thank the many friends and healthcare workers who provided friendship, compassionate care and support over the years.
