Shirley danced her last dance and passed peacefully on March 24, 2013 at the age of 84 with her family surrounding her. She was a loving Mother to daughter Linda, sons Gord (Nora), Doug and Barry, grandchildren Jessica (Geoff), Meghan, Sarah and great- granddaughter Amethyst, sister Betty-Lou, brother Allen, niece Wendy (Duncan), Susan, Cathie, nephews Kevin (Debbie), Brent (Leslie), Bradley, many great-nieces and nephews as well as cousin Doreen and long- time family friend Marilyn. Shirley was born and raised in Edmonton (Riverdale), worked at Waterloo Motors until moving to Calgary in 1952 and started a family. Buck Lake was her retirement home since 1997, was also an avid snowbird travelling to Mesa, Arizona exploring a lot of territory in between. She had a strong love of life, family, friends, dancing, music, camping and nature. In her younger years she gave a lot of her time to Girl Guides, formed a singing group, The Moonlighters, with other Girl Guide leaders along with promoting wilderness camping and outdoor programs. Shirley was loved and cherished by all who knew her, she selflessly gave of herself from the heart and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held April 13, 2013 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Buck Lake Community Center. In lieu of flowers memorial tributes can be made directly to either Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation or Multiple Myeloma Canada.
