KARKANIS, Anthony "Tony" George
1931 - 2013
Anthony (Tony) Karkanis passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2013 at the age of 82. He will be dearly missed by his wife of fifty-six years, Vassiliki; his three sons: Peter (Christine), George (Gloria), and Alex (Donna); his seven grandchildren; his brothers, Pano and Dimitri (Kathy); and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his brothers: John, Alex, Constantine, Vassily and Mario; and sisters: Artemis and Rosine. Tony earned a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Alexandria; his Masters degree in Forestry from the University of Edinburgh, and a Specialization degree in Civil Engineering and Timber Structures Technology from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. Tony worked for the Department of Forestry in Sudan for fifteen years. He also worked for eighteen years at Canada Post. Tony was an avid woodworker, loved cooking, and playing the guitar and harmonica. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (1 Tamarac Crescent S.W.) on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Graveside Committal to follow in the Garden of Resurrection.
