Wilma PRENTICE

PRENTICE, Wilma Lyle Marie
March 21, 1928 - October 9, 2013
On October 9, 2013 Wilma Lyle Marie Prentice passed away, surrounded by the family to whom she had devoted the entirety of her life. She was predeceased by her husband and the love of her life Eric Dayton Prentice who died on December 8, 2002. Their love affair began in 1945 when they met. She a beautiful girl with a radiant smile, he a handsome young hockey player, signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs. They were married in South Porcupine, Ontario on June 12, 1948 and together they raised and devoted their lives to their five children. Wilma resided in the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta at the time of her death but she and her family had also lived in Schumacher, Ontario, in Grande Cache, Alberta and in Toronto, Ontario. Wilma's five children were all with her at her death. She is survived by: Karen Prentice Oxby (Graeme) of Timmins, Ontario; JoAnne Bilodeau (Tom) of Brentwood Bay, British Columbia; Jim Prentice (Karen) of Calgary; Lori Prentice (Donald Montalbetti) of Coleman, Alberta; and Nancy Prentice (Brent Sprecher) of Calgary, Alberta. She will be sorely missed by her seven grandchildren: Cassia Gellatly Prentice (Ryan Gellatly); Katherine Prentice; Alicen Montalbetti; Jillian Montalbetti; Jason Oxby (Lorann); Christina Scott (John); Jenn Harbottle (Kevin); and her great- grandchildren. Wilma is also survived by two of her sisters Marg Hopkins (Doug) and Jean Pirie (Bill) and by many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, but all of whom were part of her life. Wilma was an extraordinary mother and supported her children and grandchildren by devoting her life to them. They were her very reason for being and they in turn loved and respected her as the maternal strength around which their family was built. Her love of her family and her refusal to leave them was poignantly illustrated during her last ten days as she fought for every single breath in the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre. The family would like to thank the Doctors and nurses who provided wonderful care. In Wilma's memory her family and friends have established The Wilma and Eric Prentice University Prize. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of the Crowsnest Consolidated High School who is going on to an accredited University, having demonstrated academic and personal leadership and who requires financial assistance. The scholarship will be awarded annually in Wilma and Eric Prentice's memory on the basis that above all else they valued family, and the education and advancement of their children. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wilma and Eric Prentice University Trust, c/o Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, 12937 - 20 Avenue, Blairmore, Alberta T0K 0E0. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca. FANTIN'S FUNERAL CHAPEL entrusted with arrangements. Telephone 403-562-8555.
