Kourosh KAZEMI Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Mar. 3 to Mar. 4, 2014.
KAZEMI, Kourosh
November 30, 1955 – Abadan, Iran
February 27, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
Kourosh Kazemi passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the age of 58 years. The world has lost an irreplaceable man who was a loving husband of 39 years
to the love of his life, Nasrin; a devoted father to his three children, Kaveh, Kamilia and Kavous; an exemplary father-in-law to Yalda and Robyn and incredibly proud grandfather to his recently arrived grandchildren Ari and Amir. In addition, he was a caring brother to Kayhan and Kamyar, uncle to his nieces and nephews, a dedicated mentor to many and a great friend to all. Like his older brother Kambiz, he predeceased his parents Ghodrat and Malekeh whom he greatly loved. Kourosh was born and raised in Abadan, Iran before immigrating to Canada in 1975. He lived in Toronto before settling in Calgary where he would leave his mark on the oil and gas industry as well as the Calgary soccer leagues. He began his career working for Fluor Canada before accepting a position with Pembina. He started his consulting company Pars Projects shortly after and accepted a full-time consulting role with Petro Canada while simultaneously consulting for several other oil and gas companies in Calgary. He accomplished his dream of starting his own engineering firm in 2012 when he founded Pioneer Engineering with the dedicated help of his youngest son Kavous. The company began with a small group of employees and had grown into a 50 plus person organization by the time of his passing. Kourosh was also known for many years as being an active player and coach in the various soccer leagues in Calgary. Through this, he made a huge difference in the lives of many young individuals and helped shape, mold and guide them through various paths of life. He founded and proudly sponsored the Pars soccer club, which grew into three teams at its pinnacle; including securing a berth in the coveted Alberta Major Soccer League. Beyond all, Kourosh was a dedicated family man, incredibly protective of his three children and deeply in love with his soul mate. His only goal in life was to ensure the happiness and success
of his family, which was reflected in his passionate work ethic. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel
of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North), on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Kourosh's name may be made directly to
the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14 Street N.W., Calgary, AB
T2N 1Z6 (Telephone 403-264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca). Graveside Service
to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Kourosh Kazemi, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.

So sorry to hear about your loss. He was the most caring soccer coach I've ever played for. I'll never forget the time I was taken to the hospital for a soccer injury and he went out of his way to contact my parents immediately to let them know, even before the hospital made them aware. Very caring man, he will be missed.

I would like to express my deepest condolences for your loss. Kourosh was a great man who touched the lives of so many people. He was a great leader, mentor, friend and inspiration for me. I got the privilege to work directly with him for almost 5 years. I have spent many long days with him learning, discussing, talking and laughing! Kourosh was so much more than a boss… he was a dear friend!

I remember one very late evening at Pioneer like it was yesterday. Marc, Kourosh and I were setting up our new phone system and installing software on our new computers prior to Pioneer's official opening. Marc and I were testing the phone system. The phone that we were testing had an extension of '111', and we thought we had to dial '9' first to make an external call. Instead we dialed 911 at 3am in the morning and the operator sent 2 police officers to the office to make sure everything was safe. Haha. We got a good laugh out of that one and Kourosh never let us forget it….

I will cherish so many fond memories of Kourosh for the rest of my life.

May you rest in Peace Sir and may the force be with you!
