The family regretfully announces the passing of Ronald John Tycholas, age 64 years of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Grandview Hospital. Ron was born on July 7, 1948 in Benito, Manitoba to parents Alexander and Mary Tycholas. He married Cynthia Hamel. Ron was a Calgary City Police Officer for 27.5 years working in many divisions of the department. In retirement, Ron and Cynthia moved to Gilbert Plains to be closer to his extended family, notably his mother in Dauphin. Ron decided that he needed to be busy and decided that he would work turning his love of numbers into his retirement job working with his good friend Gloria at H&R Block in Dauphin. Ron was as comfortable working with computers as he was working on vehicles, and quite enjoyed spending time doing either. He loved working at H&R Block as it gave him a chance to meet and work with many friends and neighbors. Papa Ron was hero to his four grandchildren often spending time on Skype making faces and having fun conversations with the boys. Ron was predeceased by his father, Alexander Tycholas and brother, Donnie Tycholas. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; two sons, Neil Armstrong and wife Shannon, Ben Armstrong and wife Tara; four grandchildren, Aiden Ronald Armstrong and William Alexander Armstrong, Sheamus Ronald- Michael Armstrong and Emmett Alaxander Armstrong; his mother, Mary Tycholas; two sisters, Rose Overby and Janet Robinson. There are numerous extended family members. Even though Ron's extended family is immense, it would be remiss not to make special mention of his Brothers and Sisters, both past and present, in the Calgary Police Service. Each of you have been, and always will be, a special part of the colorful mosaic that was Ron's life. Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, celebrated by the Very Rev. Fr. Oleg Bodnarski.
