MASON, Sharon Elizabeth
1933 - 2013
Sharon Mason (née Smith), born August 23, 1933, died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, August 15, 2013. Born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan to Ralph and Kay, Sharon was the eldest of six: Penny (Guy Baker), Jim (Vi), Dave (Beverley Reynolds), Paul, and Melody (Dick Farmer). At age 19, Sharon married Robert Mason. (They were married for 21 years). In 1960, they settled in Calgary. Their children, Ralph (Karen), Brian (Jane), Laura (John Pierce), Marilyn (Craig McInnes), and Janet (Ken Miller), and their nine grandchildren, Jessica (Cameron Barnes as well as their brand new baby and Sharon's first great-granddaughter Kathleen), Allison, Paul, Amy, Stephanie, Rebecca, Sam, Henry, and Jack, will always think of her as the centre pole of the family tent. Sharon loved her work as a music and elementary school teacher with Calgary Board of Education where she taught from 1972 to 1994. She loved to sing, anytime and anywhere: her special joy was to be a longtime member of the Knox Church Choir. For many years, she helped to organize the Knox CBC Carol Festival, and volunteered with Inn From The Cold. Many thanks to all at the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore for their loving care and attention. Although it took so much from her, even Alzheimer's could not defeat her loving spirit and sense of fun. A Memorial Service, with reception to follow, will be held at Knox United Church at 506 - 4 Street S.W., Calgary on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Tributes in Sharon's name can be made to Inn From The Cold (110 - 11 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB, T2G 0X5). Messages to the family may be left at www.southcalgaryfuneralcentre.ca. SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE and CREMATORIUM (at Lake Fraser Gate). Telephone: 403-297-0711. Honoured Provider of Dignity Memorial.
