March 11, 1925 – April 2, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Alan G. Holley of Calgary who passed away on April 2, 2014. Alan was born in Winnipeg on March 11, 1925. He was a natural athlete who excelled at both football and hockey as a young man. In 1943 Alan joined the RCAF and he was proud that his pilot wings were pinned on by his father. He subsequently flew numerous Lancaster missions over Germany and France. After the war, he received his Chartered Accountant designation and moved to Calgary where he wed Donalene, his wife of 36 years. Alan was a pioneer in the early days of the oil well drilling industry in both Canada and Alaska, first with Parker Drilling and later Nabors Drilling. While he was with Nabors Drilling, he served as the President of the CAODC. Alan later focused his efforts in the Pipeline, Ranching and Waterslide businesses and he finished his career as President and a founder of Walker Steel Corp. Dad was predeceased by his beloved Donalene and he is survived by his sons Charles, Michael, Clair (Kim) and his five grandchildren; Matthew, Brittany, Jason, Kelsey and Ryan. The family would like to thank Sandra Moran for her love and devotion to Dad over the years. At Dad's request, there will not be a formal funeral but rather a Celebration of Life to be held at the Calgary Petroleum Club on Saturday, April 12 at 7p.m.
