September 27, 1927 - December 1, 2012
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Aurelio (Al) Mamprin called to the Lord Our Father on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Rosedale Hospice in Calgary surrounded by his family. Aurelio's viaggio italiano began in Villa Nova, Italy on September 27, 1927 to his parents Giovanni Batista Mamprin and Ernesta (Longhin) Mamprin. Aurelio left Italy at the young age of 19 to work in the coal mines of Belgium. In 1952 Aurelio left war torn Europe to build a new life in Canada, landing in Montreal. Heading west to Calgary, he met the love of his life Licia (Saraceni) Mamprin and was married in 1953. Their only son Andre was born in 1963. Aurelio worked with Gallelli Brothers, Canadian Western Natural Gas and eventually for the City of Calgary Water Works Department where he spent most of his working career until 1981. Together, Aurelio and Licia grew a successful drapery manufacturing business employing and mentoring many people over the years. Aurelio retired with Licia from work life early to spend time between their homes in Summerland, B.C. and Calgary where they gardened, grew an orchard and entertained friends and family. Aurelio's mastery of gardening and winemaking occupied much of his retirement. His passion for travel allowed him and Licia to explore many exotic places. His love of the good life, kindness, and generous spirit attracted many beautiful friends and family into his life. His faith, devotion and service to Corpus Christi Catholic Parish for the past 35 years set an example for many. Aurelio leaves behind his loving wife, Licia; son Andre and daughter- in-law Patricia (Glenn). In addition his brother, Joe (Gabriella); brothers, Bruno (Lina), Arduino (Edwige); sisters, Olga, Clara (Giovanni); brothers-in-law, Nicola (Vingenzina), Camillo (Helen), Luciano (Yolanda), Oreste (Debra), Tony (Toni) Saraceni and sister-in- law, Guisepinna Ferrante; along with many extended family and relatives. Aurelio's legacy of courage, faith, generosity and community service is exemplary. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Our family would like to extend our profound gratitude to Dr. Alvarez, Dr. McGinnis, Dr. Bridges, and Dr. Helmersen along with the wonderful medical team at Foothills Hospital Unit 61 and the amazing team of professional care givers at Rosedale Hospice.
