Barbara Strang (nee Winter), beloved wife of the late Kenneth Ross Strang of Québec City, passed away on December 24, 2012 at the age of 93 years. Barbara was born on December 26, 1918 in St. John's, NL. At fourteen years, she was sent to a British boarding school, The Abbey at Malvern Wells, where she acquired fond memories. She married Kenneth Strang in 1946 following the end of WWII, having waited four years for his release from a Japanese POW camp in Hong Kong. They settled in Québec City. Upon his passing, she moved at age 71 in 1990 to Victoria, BC to start a new chapter in her life and finally, in 2004, moved to Calgary to be close to her family. Barbara was a strong supporter of the SPCA and volunteered for many years with the Québec City SPCA. She was also a faithful parishioner with her church, the Anglican Cathedral of Holy Trinity in Québec City. Barbara was a keen Bridge player, loved walking and swimming and doing weekend crossword puzzles. She was a loving wife, an exceptional mother, and a proud and doting grandmother. Barbara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Heather Strang and Stephen Sparks; and granddaughter Jacqui Sparks, all of Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Strang; and her four siblings and their spouses. A small private service will be held at Mount Hermon Cemetery, Québec City where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Barbara Strang, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.
