FOGARASSY, Charles

Charles Karoly Fogarassy passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the age of 87 years. He was born in Nagyenyed, Hungary. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1951, he was a coal miner in England. Charles worked on a farm for three years, and then moved to Calgary where he met his wife Maria, whom he married in 1955. Charles was a glider pilot in the early years. He spent his weekends on the farm and beekeeping. Charles was a former president of Calgary & District Beekeepers Association. Charles was employed at Neon Sales & Service for over thirty-seven years. Charles is survived by his daughters, Maria "Magdi" (Don) Ayers and their children Pam (Stephen) Beare and Brian, and Kathleen (Grant) Trevathan and their children Ashley (Pablo) Ormachea, Michael, stepdaughter Margaret (Steve) Scholly and their children Andrew, Les (Cheryl) and three great-grandchildren Landon, Ashton and Noah. Charles is also survived by his long-time partner Ilona "Helen" Magas, and her daughters Martha, Gabriella, and Lucy. He is also survived by his brother Attila and his children. Charles was predeceased by parents, his wife Maria and his brother Arpad. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so prior to the Service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) today, March 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Prince of Peace for their gracious care of Charles. In living memory of Charles Fogarassy, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Provincial Park.
