We remember him often with sadness and happiness for having known him in our Ski Club ~ his kindness and fun: "I take Advil for pain" with the ski pole through his head dressed up like a hippie!

Scott & Amy, we've only met a few times when you were in the office but over the last 16 years of working with your Dad and hearing the many antidotes of ski trips and hikes a feel like I know you both a little. There wasn't a prouder Dad. I recall the story of when he went back-country camping and accidentally pepper sprayed himself and needed to hike out quickly as peppered person would end up attracting bears! I will miss his inquisitive nature and his ability to immerse himself in whatever he was doing whether it was contributing to a project or wearing a flamingo suite for Halloween. He was much loved around the office and is greatly missed.

Dear Maggie,
We were overwhelmed with sadness when Susan and I heard of Chuck's passing from a friend who worked with him on the Cyber 205 Super Computer. It brought back memories for Susan of working with you at Pan Canadian, our attendance at your wedding along with Blob (Chuck's graduate supervisor, Brian Wyvill), a Hallowe'en night where we all dressed up (you as an airport landing strip, complete with lights, so imaginative) and a baseball game which all three of our kids remember. We will see you at Chuck's Memorial to celebrate the life of a very special person.

We were all shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of Chuck's passing.

I have known Chuck for a while, we worked together. He was always eager to share his outdoor stories and stories about his kids, Scott and Amy. He was very proud of them.

He was a great human being, very empathetic and great support in hard times.

We will miss hearing his stories... like the one about the plastic bottle in the car for those long trips with the skull drawn on it. He is the only person I know who managed to spray himself with bear spray four times! He will tell us about the bike he had been riding for about 120 years, to later find out that he had replaced all parts except maybe the frame!

He was very competitive, and will do everything as it was the last thing he would do. He played recreational soccer with us like he was in the World Cup Final. On that topic, he lost a bet with me when Spain won the World Cup defeating Germany. He had to wear his pink flamingo Halloween costume in the office. He didn't mind wearing the costume, but he did mind that he had lost the bet.

Maggie, Amy and Scott... Chuck will be dearly remembered by all us and deeply missed. Our hearts and thoughts are with you.

Roger, Jocelyn and Trafford.

Dear dear dear Chuck. Our hearts are very heavy and will miss you deeply. Although I worked with you for only a short 7 years of your life, it was certainly entertaining the loooong dark HAIR', the deep voice with a genuine smile, your ability to dress up' without any qualms the flamingo was a favourite, your witty sense of humour and quick comebacks, that big serving bowl of veggies with a gallon of EVOO beside your computer to munch on all day, the stories of spectacular skiing, the list goes on and on Your family, as we, are so fortunate to have had many special memories. Thank you

I was tremendously shocked and saddened to hear about Chuck's passing. I only got to know him in the last few years on Saturday morning summer runs. Chuck and I had great conversations about our kids, love of running and the great outdoors. I'm sorry not to be in Calgary to celebrate his life -- one cut far too short. For his friends and family, I hope your memories of Chuck and the messages here help you in your grief.

I only met Chuck a couple of times through the Stampede City Ski Club. The first time was last year on the Louise bus...I was new to the club and I was so impressed with how welcome Chuck made me feel and how he made sure that I found a group of people to ski with. I barely knew him, but it was obvious that he was a warm, caring individual. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I have had lots of good chats with Chuck about various bicycling stories. He would comment about the distances that I would ride to work but I was always impressed at the colder temperatures that he could ride in. He was a motivator for me. Some days I would consider not riding to work because of poor weather but would end up riding anyhow because I knew Chuck would be riding that day and that he would ask me if I rode too! If we had an exceptionally good or poor ride, we would find each other to tell them about it.
He loved to fix his bikes and keep them going as long as he could. But over the years, he had to buy frames as the old one would finally crack or break from so much use, He would always salvage parts to keep it going. He was proud to get as much use as possible out of all his bikes and parts. I think this was partly to help protect the environment and to not produce much waste.
At work, he would always eat such healthy things. We all know he loved a big bowl of salad which could keep him grazing on it all day. I always thought highly of Chuck's opinions on things. I respected Chuck and he made me feel respected. I will miss his good laugh and his kind nature. He was very proud of his children and liked to share their accomplishments. I have met his children....they always spoke with me which impressed me very much.
We will all miss Chuck!

Dear Chuck,

How much fun we had during our time in Calgary. Skiing and just being with you was always an adventure, both Toby and Stella just adored you. We all loved being with you. Making ski friends with you and Amy was a major turning point in the fun we had in the Rockies. That Toby and Stella are now ski racing on dry slopes in the UK is down to you.

As well as skiing we loved the intro you gave us all to back-country camping, and loved catching up wherever we were with all your great stories. Who else would take an umbrella hiking in mid-summer? We feel all the richer for knowing you.

Amy, Scott and Maggie we are just devastated by this news and cannot imagine how you all feel. Please know that Chuck will be very sadly missed all over the world.

Dear Amy, Maggie and Scott. We are so terribly sorry for your loss and so sorry that you have to go through this.
I remember when Chuck used to ride Amy and Scott to school and being amazed at what a great Dad he was. I always appreciated when he took Elisabeth skiing, knowing she'd be safe. How ironic that that's how we lost him.
We're very sad and sorry that we won't be able to be at the memorial to share hugs and tears, as we're out of the country.
Please take good care. I'm praying for you.

Love, Catherine and Tom Cadman

My sincerest condolences to Chuck's family and his many friends. I worked very closely with Chuck over the last year and a half. I am very privileged to have had that opportunity. Chuck was very dedicated to seeing the best outcomes for our company, our clients and our colleagues. He will be deeply missed.

I met Chuck, while working in Calgary for 18 months. He was a diligent, thoughtful and hard work colleague. He enjoyed a joke and I will always remember the laughs we had, over the little things, like his salad bowl and whether Mark Giordano was a neighbour.
His kids were always first in his life and my sympathies go to you his family, his friends and work colleagues. I am proud to have met and worked with Chuck. He was a good man with a massive heart.

Amy, Scott and Maggie, my deepest condolences. My heart especially goes out to Amy and Scott as I know it is so hard to lose a Dad in a sudden accident.

I have known Chuck since we (and our moms) became instant friends at the start of German school in Grade 3. After that our families were so close that Chuck was like my second brother as we were growing up.

Chuck was always passionate about anything he was doing whether it was skiing, programming, skateboarding, hiking, backpacking, climbing or trying to eat the 8-person serving of ice cream by himself. Any day spent with Chuck was always going to be a great day. We will all miss him tremendously.

Scott, Amy & Maggie,
I am so saddened to hear of Chucks passing and my heart goes out to you all. We have never met but I was the kid that grew up next door to Chuck. I can't even begin to tell you about all good times, fun things not to mention some foolish activities we did together as kids.. it would be a novel!! We are all so lucky to have had Chuck in our lives at some point in time... he will be sadly missed my many.

I am so sorry to learn of Chuck's untimely passing. He was such a great guy -- so much fun. He was a good runner, an excellent skier, and a very kind man. Chuck was part of our Saturday morning running group and always showed up with a smile on his face and a fashion style that was truly his own! I went skiing with Chuck once last year and when we were faced with a total whiteout at the top, he smiled and encouraged me to "point your skis downhill and just trust." We will miss him dearly.

We were shocked and deeply impacted by the passing of Chuck. He was a caring, generous person who, as everyone knows, was an extreme sportsman embracing every moment he could get in the mountains. He was a profound thinker, brilliant, complex, modest, kind, and loved by all who's life he touched. We will truly miss you "Charles",

Scott & Amy,
We have not met but your Dad was one of my best childhood friends. He gave me my first kiss, when we were 5 or 6, and my first Barbie doll at my 7th Birthday Party. His Mom made the best grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch and we spent many hours doing homework (he always had the top grades), riding bikes and playing down "the hill". Since he moved back to the neighborhood, I saw Charles a few times at the neighborhood grocery stores and we talked about getting together. He was a fun, clever and creative guy. You are fortunate to have had him as your Dad.

Scott, Amy, Maggie...my heart goes out to you. Chuck always had a smile and an even bigger one when he was on the ski hill and in the outdoors. I hope you can take some comfort in the generations of people with disabilities with whom he shared his love of an active life in the mountains. I send my love and deepest sympathies to your entire family and to the Markit Team who is mourning Chuck's sudden passing. You are in my thoughts.
