Following a stroke, Donald Knecht passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the age of 86 years. Donald Andrew Knecht was born March 29, 1926 to Otto and Ellen Knecht of Mayton, Alberta. He was the oldest of six children. After attending school in Torrington and Olds, Don joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944. When the war ended, he worked in Calgary then returned to farming with his Dad near Olds. In 1948, Don married Joyce Richards of Olds and in 1950 their daughter, Patsy Lee was born. He and his Dad retired from farming in 1962. Don subsequently attended SAIT and qualified as a journeyman Electrician. After gaining experience with other electrical companies, Don was employed as the maintenance electrician for the Highlander and Carriage House hotels for twenty-five years. He eventually formed his own company with wife Joyce, retiring at the age of seventy. Don was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion 105 Olds, the Olds Stock Car Club and The Calgary Sports Car Club. He held a private pilot license, was active on the boards of the condominiums in which he and Joyce lived, and until recently walked two and a half miles a day. Don is survived by his wife of
sixty-four years, Joyce Knecht of Calgary; grandchildren, Andrew Moreau of Duncan, B.C., Kristina (Brien) Montgomery, and Laura Moreau (Ryan Patterson) of Victoria, B.C.; son-in-law Leo (Lyne) Moreau of Duncan, B.C.; five great-grandchildren and two step- great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Rosehill of Olds and Beth Dorsey of Calgary; brothers Robert (Ileen) Knecht and Norman (Pat) Knecht of Calgary; and sister-in-law Joy Knecht of Revelstoke, B.C. He was predeceased by his daughter Pat Moreau; brother Gordon Knecht; brother-in-law Charles Rosehill; and parents Otto and
Ellen Knecht. Funeral Services will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Branch
No. 105, 5241 - 46 Street, Olds, AB on
