Ed Dearden, beloved husband of Audrey of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Ed was born and raised in Kamsack, SK. He served our country proudly during WWII as a member of the Winnipeg Grenadiers. He was captured during the fall of Hong Kong on Christmas Day 1941, and survived four years as a prisoner of war in Japan. In addition to his numerous Service Medals, Ed was recently awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal. Besides his loving wife Audrey, Ed is survived by his four children and their spouses, Laura-Mae Miller (Robert), Douglas Salmon, Linda Salmon (Wayne Love) and Brenda Lee Cherry (Gordon); son-in-law David Breiddal; ten grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; sister-in-law Hope Dearden and numerous nephews. Ed was predeceased by his daughter Marilyn Breiddal in 2012 and brothers Jim and Eric Dearden. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Calgary Poppy Fund and Veteran's Food Bank, Suite 1, 4539 - 6 Street N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 3Z6. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of McKenzie Towne Retirement Residence for their loving care and also to Peg Andersen of Vacationland Holidays for her close friendship. In living memory of John Dearden, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
