February 13, 1916 – December 20, 2012
George John (Jack) Merryfield passed away peacefully at Banff Mineral Springs Hospital on Thursday, December 20, 2012 in his 97th year. Jack was born in Toronto in 1916, one of five children of Edward and Mary Merryfield. The family settled in Calgary in 1930 where he completed his education at Western Canada Technical School. They married in September of 1946 and made their home in Bragg Creek. After fifty-one years in Bragg Creek, Jack and Joan moved to Redwood Meadows until their move to Big Hill Lodge in Cochrane. A firm believer in supporting his community, Jack was a long time member of the Bragg Creek Community Association. He will be remembered for his dedication and participation in the annual Bragg Creek Remembrance Day Service which he and a small group of veterans initiated in 1993. Jack is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Joan; son George; daughter Marie (John) Nylund; son Jim and daughter Carol Storey.
