ALEXANDER, Gordon Mackenzie

Gordon was predeceased by his daughter Diana Gay Alexander, parents John and Margaret Alexander, sisters Isabelle, Jean and brother Jack. Gordon was born in Cranbrook B.C. on July 18, 1926, he moved to Calgary in 1930 when he was four years old. Gordon lived in Rocky Mountain House when he was 12 to 14 years old then returned to Calgary and joined the Calgary Highlander's 2nd Reserve Battalion. He caught the train to Montreal when he was 17 years old to join the Canadian Military, but was too young and they would not accept his application. He then applied and joined the Canadian Merchant Marines, crossing the Atlantic Ocean 42 times. He served from 1944 to 1951 and returned to Calgary where he met Ella and married in 1953, starting a family with children Donald, Diana, Wendy and Gerald. They raised their entire family in the house that he built himself with help from his father John and remained living in for the remainder of his life. He started with Calgary Transit in 1953 driving street trolleys and buses for 31 years before retiring at the age of 56 years. Gordon and Ella then focused their time towards their passion of farming their land near Caroline, Alberta. They spent their winters in Calgary where he played his favorite sport of ice hockey up to the age of 80 years and also spent time with Ella in the senior skating club. Gordon always had high family values and spent most of his time visiting family and friends.
