Gordon Weir was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Dad loved the life he had, lived it fully and had no desire to leave it. To the end, he remained his cheerful, interested, encouraging self. Born in Moose Jaw, SK, Dad moved to Calgary with his family in 1932. He attended Western Canada High School and after active service, attended the University of Alberta. At the U of A, Dad met Patricia Louise Foster, the love of his life, and was happily married for 59 years until Mom's passing in April 2004. Dad is survived by his son, Robert; daughter, Janet (Geoff) Connerton; grandson, Scott; granddaughter, Alexandra and his sister and very dear friend, Marguerite Weir. Mom and Dad traveled extensively and spent 35 wonderful years with family and friends at their summer home in Jarvis Bay at Sylvan Lake. Dad's companies successfully sold Canadian and imported furniture to dealers from Thunder Bay to Victoria for over forty years. Dad was a 60-year member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity at U of A, Central United Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Glencoe Club. Dad always maintained an active and joyful interest in our lives and the lives of his friends. He taught us about humour, ethics, loyalty, love, and kindness. In return, anyone who knew him adored him. Living at home until the end, Dad remained sharp, keeping up on news and the economy. When presented with an Ipad, on his 90th birthday his first question was "How many apps does it have?". Dad had a magical way of making every person he met feel that they were interesting and special. He would give you his undivided attention leaving you feeling smarter, funnier and prettier than when you came. Dad was content, calm and confident. With his wonderful wit, he was a model of a loving, accepting parent. How lucky we were to have a Father who showed us that it is a beautiful world, and to be told that we are worthy of it. We can only strive to be so strong... as generous and as dignified in our lives as he was in his unconditional love for life, family and his friends. We will miss him more than words can ever express. At Dad's request a private family service will be held at a later date.
