JACOBSON, Herbert Allan
The Guest Book is expired.
April 14, 1922 - November 8, 2012
Herb Jacobson passed suddenly into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the age of 90 years.
Herb was born in Ferintosh and raised in Okotoks, AB. At nineteen years of age, during WWII, he eagerly enlisted with the RCAF and was sent overseas to join the No. 6 Canadian Bomber Group in Yorkshire, England for three years. Following the war, he attended Prairie Bible Institute and the University of Alberta, while also meeting a young school teacher named Stella whom he married in 1951.
After completing his education in physical chemistry, he worked thirty-two years for Imperial Oil as an engineer involved in the development of patented reservoir engineering recovery methods and subsequently the development of air quality standards and monitoring techniques. He was also a member of Priddis Greens Golf Club and was an active member of the Gideons ministry for nearly thirty-five years; in charge of Bible distribution to grade five students in the Calgary area for many years. He was a charter member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and subsequently a member and elder at First Alliance Church. Wherever Herb was involved, he loved to sing and add his tenor voice to any quartet or choir. He also treasured the hymns of his Christian faith and had memorized over two hundred classics. Now he is singing in the heavenly choirs with all of the saints and angels.
He leaves to grieve Stella, his loving wife and soul-mate of sixty-one years. He will also be sadly missed by his son Lorne (Kristi) Jacobson and grandchildren Elyse (Doug) Van Spronsen and Tyler Jacobson. He also leaves his brother Ralph (Doris) Jacobson; brother-in-law John (Rene) Lind; sister-in-law Judy Vandellan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he cared for deeply. He was predeceased by his precious daughter Patty; brother James (Ruth) Jacobson; and his parents Helmer and Agnes.
A Celebration of Herb's Life will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 - 40 Street S.E.) today, November 14, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Gideons, P.O. Box 3619, Station Main, Guelph, ON N1H 9Z9 (Telephone 1-888-482-4253, www.gideons.ca). In living memory of Herb Jacobson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
