1928 - 2012
The Family of Ian Whitmore wishes to share that he passed away peacefully at home on May 18, 2012. He left us on his own terms at 84 years old. Ian was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on January 25, 1928 - the first of two sons born to Cecil and Grace Whitmore. He grew up on the prairies. Receiving a Geology degree from the University of Manitoba, Ian worked for Gulf Canada and Dome Petroleum. Ian met Lois in Flin Flon when she was only 16. They later re-connected and married in 1954 in Winnipeg. From this union of over 57 years came their family of; Wray, Lacey, Lee (Shaune) and Kim (Janice). He is survived by his wife Lois; a dedicated wife and caregiver to him, seven grandchildren: Aaron, Pat, Charley, Paige, Bryce, Mollie and Jake, his brother Bruce (Helen) and a myriad of much loved American nieces and nephews. Ian loved nature. As a family many summer camping trips took place. Dad was always fixing something at every campground visited. Mom and dad were avid bird watchers and tromped all around Alberta with binoculars and bird books. We will miss Dad's 'peace signs,' all women being a 'Miss' and his famous day timer. After years of health struggles with few complaints, enjoy a well- deserved rest D.O.D. A celebration of Ian's life will be held on August 18, 2012 - details to follow. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation are greatly appreciated.
