CUNNINGHAM, Ida May
February 14, 1925 - December 21, 2012
Ida was born on a farm near Tompkins, Sask, on Februrary 14, 1925. Parents were Robert (Bob) and Jessie Smyth. She took a three year nursing course in Barrie, ON., from 1943-1946. Married Ralph Cunningham from Barrie, ON.,on October 25, 1947. Moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1948. She became a Brown Owl, than badge secretary for the Brownie organization. In Gull Lake, she belonged to a bridge club, the Royal Purple Lodge no. 111, and the senior organization, enjoyed all cards and the casino trips. In 1976, Ralph and Ida bought the Lazy D Motel in Gull Lake, Sask. and ran it for eight years. On retiring Ralph built their house in Gull Lake Sask. Ralph passed away on Oct.12, 1996, Ida moved to Redwater, Alberta in 2006. Predeceased by parents, three brothers John, Jim, and Austin Smyth, and five sisters Vera Berridge, Eileen Schneidmiller, Joan Adlem, Elsie May (died in infancy) and June Winter. Left to mourn, brother Ken (Jackie), daughter Wendy (Stan), Willerton, son Michael (Taeko) Cunningham; four grandchildren Freeman (Michelle), Megan, Matthew, and Evan (Jessica); six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Brenden, Madeline, Jayden, Annika and Alison. Cremation has taken place and a memorial for Ida celebrating her life will occur at a later date in Gull Lake, Sask. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the long term care staff at the Redwater Health Centre.
