Irwin Cowan Wilkins passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice on December 31, 2012 at the age of 79 years. Irwin is lovingly remembered by his wife Georgina, daughter Janice, son-in-law Shawn and grandchildren Sarah and Zachariah, sister Avis and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Irwin was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Vera Wilkins as well as his son Stephen, sister Marguerite and brother Horace. Irwin was born March 7, 1933 in Clute, Ontario. He was the third of four children. Irwin attended high school in Cochrane, Ontario. He asked Christ into his life as a young man under Pastor Boyed near Sudbury, Ontario. Irwin served as an instrument and electrical technician in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1954 to 1977. He and Georgina married on August 1, 1959. Irwin enjoyed backpacking, cross-country skiing, camping, photography and many other pursuits. He was actively involved at Fairview Baptist Church in Calgary and will be missed by the church family. A Funeral Service will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), Calgary on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. An opportunity for Visitation to pay your respects will be made available prior to Service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Pastor Peter Vanderwal of Fairview Baptist will officiate and burial will follow the Service at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
