Joan Mark, beloved grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Joan was born in Torquay, England. She married Ken Mark on June 17, 1940. They moved to Canada with their daughter April. Together they shared many years, enjoying travelling, camping and boating. Joan loved knitting, playing cards, gambling, and playing Mexican Train. At the Colonel Belcher Seniors' Residence, where she was the First Floor captain, volunteer bartender and well wisher, her door was always open for old and new friends to drop by for coffee. Joan was a long-time member of the Hillhurst Rebekah Lodge No. 116 where she volunteered her time and energy to many worthy causes. Her pop can tab collection was probably the largest in Canada which helped to purchase many wheelchairs. Joan was predeceased by her husband Ken and her daughter April. She is survived by her three granddaughters, Rhonda, Janice and Monica and two great-grandchildren, Jeremy and MacKenzie, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S. (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society), Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 8M7 (Telephone 403-295-1811, www.stars.ca). In living memory of Joan Mark, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
