Joann Hembree Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2009.
HEMBREE , Joann It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joann Hembree. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 19, 2009 with family by her side. This adventurous woman, beloved wife of Ian Underdown and loving mother of Cody and Jeremy Hembree leaves behind her grandson Jack; brothers Roy (Stephanie) Healy, Bruce Healy, Allen Healy, Jack Healy, and Dave (Sylvia) Healy. Joann was a devoted, dedicated mother, wife and friend. She enjoyed life to its fullest while sailing, entertaining friends, cooking, playing with her dogs and celebrating any occasion imaginable. Ian and Joann had hoped to sail the world but sadly that adventure was cut short after discovering she had cancer. Joann conquered Mount Kilimanjaro but could not beat cancer. A Celebration of her extraordinary Life will be held at her home, 770 Arbutus Avenue in Maple Bay, Duncan, BC, on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 5 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Invermere Cemetery, BC where Joann's ashes will be placed on the gravesite of her father which is also where her mother's ashes lie. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Joann's memory. SANDS OF DUNCAN Telephone: 1-250-746-5212.

A year has passed since we said goodbye
And still I find I sit and cry
I miss you every single day
And wish you hadn't gone away.
I know you're here with me sometimes
I see the feathers left behind
Our secrets will stay safe with me
All locked up in memory
Our friend Jim was called home too
I know that he is there with you.
We all miss you both so much
Our prayers to you keep us in touch.
I talk to you and know you hear
You tell me not to shed more tears
So I keep you in my heart each day
Memories of you won't go away.
When my time on earth is through
Once again I will be with you.

Just a few words to say Farewell to my friend, my "sister", my confident. We shared laughter, hugs, adventures and secrets. I will miss you every day until we meet again my friend. I promise to be here for your family if they ever need me for anything. Jack is a gorgeous, happy boy who will always know how special his grandma was. So glad you got to meet him. I will watch for the feathers. Rest peacefully. Good to you! Toodles!

I loved Joann very much. When I knew her, she treated me like a daughter, and always made me laugh. I remember particularly when we were in Barcelona and accidentally walked into a bordello thinking it was a bar! I can still hear her laughing. I also remember how hard it was for Cody and her to say goodbye on that trip and my heart aches for you Cody as you deal with this loss.
Joann was an amazing mother, and since having kids of my own I have thought of her often, remembering how dedicated she was to her sons and how hard she worked in raising them.
My own parents, Hans and Vera, pass along their sympathies also. I am so truly sorry for this loss.
With Love,
Kristi
