ALIG, Jutta 1938 - 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother and friend, Jutta Alig at the Foothills Hospital on Saturday, October 30, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Born Jutta Maria Horn in Buxtehude, Germany, December 31, 1938, Jutta and her husband George immigrated to Canada with their two small children in 1967 and have called Calgary their home for over forty-three years. When her third son, John, was old enough to attend school, Jutta upgraded her British Registered Nurse status to Alberta standards. She enjoyed her work as a Registered Nurse until 1985, when she chose to leave the nursing profession. Of the many passions Jutta had in her life, she drew special enjoyment from drawing and painting even from a young age, and she was a member of several local art groups in her life. She decided to become a full-time artist and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary in 1991. As well as being successful in her artistic career, Jutta was first and foremost a mother. She and family spent many enjoyable times together in the outdoors, camping, hiking and exploring many wonderful places collecting rocks and fossils. Jutta is survived by her husband, George and their three children Christian (Virginia Palsgrove), Inga, and John, and by her sister Rosie. She will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. If so desired, donations can be made in Jutta's name to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation (200, 119 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary, AB, T2N 1Z6) or to the excellent doctors and staff of the Emergency Unit and Cardiac ICU at the Foothills Hospital (1403 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB, T2N 2T9).
